Get Creative With Camera Raw Editing

How to resurrect a poorly exposed image.

final edited image

I shot this image while on vacation in Mexico. It was late in the day, but not as late as the final edited image suggests.

I really blew the exposure and initially rejected it for being so poor.

Sidewalk Salvation

HDR composite image

This image is currently hanging in the Escondido Municipal Arts Gallery as part of the PAG show, “Shadows”. The show runs through February 5th, 2011. “Sidewalk Salvation” is one of the first successful images I created using an experimental process I call HDR compositing. 1 Tip for composing panoramas

How to capture a good composition.

Panorama Lookout
Panoramas are a lot of fun and pretty easy to create with Photoshop’s Photomerge filter. They are also kind of magical because it is almost impossible to visualize the final image while shooting the frames.

Change always brings some complaints, especially big changes like this one.

In this video tutorial I take you on a thorough tour of the new Select and Mask, sharing how I use it and why I (mostly) like it. I also share my opinions about where it is lacking and how I think it could be improved.

How To Determine Which Lightroom Catalog You Have Open

Don't lose track of your work

In my teaching, and spending time in the Adobe forums I see people struggling with this. They open Lightroom and all the work done on a previous day has some how been lost, and they are certain Lightroom is at fault. Of course Lightroom is not at fault. They've simply opened a different catalog than the one previously worked in.

I recorded this video to explain how to figure out what catalog you have open.

Can I combine Lightroom catalogs into a single catalog?

Yes. It's Easy.

It’s very easy to merge Lightroom catalogs. This comes in handy if you have created a catalog on a laptop while traveling,  or have multiple catalogs that should be combined into one.

While in Lightroom go to File>Import From Another Catalog... This imports all of the information from the chosen catalog including, edits, collections and smart collections.
